Free Image Compressor Features
Free Online Image Compressor — Reduce File Size Without Losing Quality
Utilsly's free image compressor shrinks JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF and BMP images directly in your browser using the Canvas API. There's no upload, no signup and no limit on how many images you can compress — perfect for shrinking photos before emailing, uploading to a website, or sharing online.
How Our Image Compressor Works
Each image is decoded and redrawn onto an in-memory canvas at your chosen size, then re-encoded with adjustable JPEG or WEBP quality, or losslessly as PNG. Nothing is ever sent to a server — the entire process runs locally on your device, which also means it works offline once the page has loaded.
How to Get the Smallest File Size Without Losing Quality
For most photos, a quality setting of 70–85% with JPEG or WEBP output gives a great balance between file size and visual quality. If you need a precise file size — for a form upload limit or email attachment cap — use Target Size mode and enter the maximum KB allowed. Resizing large photos down to the dimensions you actually need also reduces file size dramatically.
Supported Formats — Input and Output
Input: JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF and BMP. Output: JPEG, PNG or WEBP — or keep the original format. WEBP typically produces the smallest files for the same visual quality, while JPEG offers the broadest compatibility and PNG preserves transparency and stays fully lossless.
Common Use Cases for Image Compression
- Website Performance — Smaller images mean faster page loads and better Core Web Vitals scores.
- Email Attachments — Fit photos under email provider size limits without manual editing.
- Form & Upload Limits — Use Target Size mode to hit an exact KB cap required by a form.
- Social Media & Messaging — Reduce file size before sharing on apps with upload limits.
- Storage Savings — Shrink large photo libraries to free up cloud storage and device space.
- Bulk Processing — Compress an entire folder's worth of images at once and download as a ZIP.
Privacy — Your Images Never Leave Your Device
All compression happens entirely in your browser. Images are never uploaded to any external server, and metadata such as EXIF location data is automatically stripped during re-encoding — no account, no tracking, no data retention of any kind.
